Shannon Sumerlin is a nationally recognized leader in event management and corporate engagement with more than a decade of experience creating impactful experiences across higher education, nonprofit, and global organizations. A proud University of Florida alum, she has directed signature campus traditions including Gator Growl and Homecoming, produced international conferences such as the Stimuli Responsive Materials Conference, and led large-scale corporate and sports activations, including the NFL Experience.
Sumerlin currently serves as Executive Director of Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure, where she leads national efforts to advance research and advocacy while actively planning and executing a year-round portfolio of fundraising and community events. Her work keeps her deeply engaged in the day-to-day practice of event strategy, design, and production.
In addition to her professional leadership, Sumerlin teaches multiple courses in the University of Florida’s Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management program. She also serves as Internship Coordinator and Field Experience Instructor, and advises student organizations, supporting experiential learning and professional development for students preparing to enter the industry.
Her Juris Doctor informs her approach to contracts, risk management, and strategic partnerships within the events and nonprofit sectors. Sumerlin has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the University of Florida Hall of Fame and recognition as a Fierce Woman of Gainesville.
