About the Graduate Certificate 

The Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management Certificate is a fully online graduate certificate that equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to apply AI and data-driven decision-making in the tourism, hospitality, and event industries.

This online graduate certificate is exclusively available to students who are admitted to and enrolled in the online Tourism and Hospitality Management master's program. Current online graduate students are encouraged to explore this opportunity to master AI fundamentals and increase their competitive advantage in the job marketing. Students must take all three courses below to complete the certificate. Students can complete the program with two valuable credentials - a master’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management and a graduate certificate in AI and Data Analytics in Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management at no additional cost.

Total Credits: 9 

Minimum Grade Requirement: Courses must be completed at UF with a grade of C or higher. 

Enrollment Status: This online graduate certificate is exclusively available to students who are admitted to and enrolled in UF's online Tourism and Hospitality Management master's program.

Application Timing: Students must apply before starting their second course in the certificate program.

Required Coursework

Students will complete the three following courses (9 credits) to earn the certificate:

HMG 6440: Artificial Intelligence Revolutions and Applications in Tourism, Hospitality, and Events (3 credits)

This course takes you on an exciting journey through the transformative world of AI, starting with an exploration of its history, development, and core principles. You’ll gain a solid foundation in AI fundamentals, understanding how these cutting-edge technologies work and why they matter. From booking systems and transportation to theme parks, resorts, and restaurants, you’ll discover how AI is revolutionizing the industry. 

HMG 6740: Smart Cities, Attractions, and Theme Parks (3 credits)

This course explores the transformative impact of technology on tourism, focusing on the development and management of smart cities, attractions, theme parks, and cruise lines. Students will examine the integration of artificial intelligence, data science, and immersive technologies in creating innovative, sustainable, and guest-centered tourism experiences. Through critical analysis and practical applications, students will gain a deep understanding of design science, experience design, and the ethical and operational challenges of smart tourism. 

HMG 6448: GIS and Spatial Analysis for Tourism and Social Data (3 credits)

Learn how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis are applied to tourism and social data. This course equips you with the ability to summarize core GIS concepts, apply GIS in quantitative research using sociodemographic data, and use GIS as a tool for spatial analyses on tourism-related issues. You will generate GIS data, apply spatial data analysis skills, and demonstrate spatial data visualization and presentation techniques. The course integrates lectures, method discussions, student-led presentations, and practical work, culminating in a final project that showcases students' abilities to work with spatial data.
